Live the Pacific Fins Experience

Conservation In Mind

Conservation is Top of Mind

Representatives of the Guatemalan Sailfish Commission – Niels and Manoel – coordinated a very productive meeting between Dr. Nelson Ehrhardt – Scientific Director from the University of Miami’s School of Marine Sciences and the Guatemalan Pacific Naval Command.

The main objective discussed at this meeting is truly innovative within the realm of Conservation:

Pursue an educational alliance between University of Miami and the Guatemalan Naval Academy that will render:

-An educational platform for the Guatemalan Naval Academy to use and thus become the instructors for all Artisan Fishermen on topics relating to their work and their relationship with the environment and sustainable fishing

–  The latest and most updated curricula for the Naval Academy’s cadets

By participating directly on the educational and training programs, the message of Conservation and Sustainable fishing will be embedded in everyone’s mind for the foreseeable future.

Marlin of Late

Marlin fishing has been fantastic in the last few weeks.

The Gonzalez group released a Blue marlin on Fly.

The Ambassador to Colombia released a Blue.

Our boat Gypsy in the local tournament released a Black.

Our boat Maverick in the local tournament released a Blue.

The Fedora Group released a Blue yesterday.

The Saravia Group released a Stripey.

The Heffernan Group released several Blues and a Striped.

Katka Group released 2 Blues.

December is prime time in Guatemala. In addition to the great marlin fishing we average double digit sailfish releases per day, per boat.

Fly Fishing Champ

5x Women’s Fly Fishing Champion Visits Pacific Fins

Katka Švagrová, a professional fly fisher, writer and filmmaker visited us this past week for 4 days. Katka is a 5x time Women’s Fly Fishing Champion of the Czech Republic.

Her group raised 39 sailfish, had 18 bites, released 7 on FLY and 4 conventional. They also raised 8 marlin, had 4 bites and released 2. One of the marlin was 500 lbs. Add in several dorado and tuna into the mix. We can’t wait to see the footage from her trip and will share it when it is finished.  We enjoyed having Katka, Vebjorn and Anders at Pacific Fins.
